**Mastering the Inner Game: Insights from the Ancient Scrolls**
**By Ray Yenkana**

Hey everyone, Ray Yenkana here. Welcome back to another deep dive into the principles of ultimate success.

In my career spanning marketing, sales, and coaching, I’ve consumed countless books and training modules, but few things hit as hard as the ancient wisdom found in Og Mandino’s *The Greatest Salesman in the World.*

Today, I want to take you inside my mind as I process the profound teachings of these scrolls. We are going to focus heavily on the 6th Scroll, but before we get there, I have to set the stage with a quick look back.

**What I liked about Scroll 5 was…**

What I liked most about Scroll 5 was its raw, unyielding urgency. The core principle of that scroll is, “I will live this day as if it is my last.” In the business world, procrastination and dwelling on past failures are the silent killers of momentum.

Scroll 5 teaches us to completely seal up the container of life so that not one drop spills onto the sand. It forced me to look in the mirror and realize that wasting time mourning yesterday’s misfortunes or worrying about tomorrow is foolish.

What I truly loved was the aggressive stance it takes against time-wasters. It explicitly commands us to destroy procrastination with action and dismember fear with confidence.

It reminded me that our hours are our eternity, and every single minute must be traded only for something of immense value. It fired me up to push my limits and make every day a masterpiece.

**What I learned from this scroll (Scroll 6) was…**

With that fire lit by the fifth scroll, I turned to the 6th Scroll, which begins with the declaration: “Today I will be master of my emotions.”

What I learned from this scroll is that human beings are an intricate part of nature, and just like the tides, the seasons, and the blooming and fading of flowers, our internal moods will inevitably rise and fall.

I used to think that top producers just woke up magically motivated every single day. But this scroll reveals the true secret of the ages: “Weak is he who permits his thoughts to control his actions; strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts”.

As a marketer and sales professional, realizing that I don’t have to be a victim of my shifting moods was a total paradigm shift. I learned that I can actually *create* my own weather.

If I bring gloom, darkness, and pessimism to my clients, they will react with gloom and buy absolutely nothing. But if I actively bring joy, enthusiasm, and brightness, my customers will react with joy, and my “weather” will produce a harvest of sales and a granary of gold.

The scroll provides a brilliant, practical battle plan: if I feel depressed, I must sing; if I feel fear, I must plunge ahead; if I feel insignificant, I will remember my goals. I learned that action is the ultimate override switch for a negative mindset.

**What changes I will make in my life with the teachings of this scroll…**

What changes will I make in my life with the teachings of this scroll? First and foremost, I am implementing an immediate pattern interrupt for my negative emotions.

When I face rejection—which is a daily reality in the real estate and coaching space—and I start feeling inferior or incompetent, I refuse to sit and stew in it. Instead, I will force my actions to override my feelings.

If I feel incompetent, I will immediately remember my past successes; if I feel poverty creeping into my mind, I will focus on the wealth to come.

But more than just fighting the lows, I am making a massive change in how I handle the “highs.” Scroll 6 contains a powerful warning about the dangers of unchecked positive emotions, which can be just as destructive.

From now on, if I become overconfident, I will recall my failures; if I feel complacent, I will remember my fierce competition; if I attain great wealth, I will remember one unfed mouth.

I am going to stay grounded and balanced, ensuring my ego never outgrows my work ethic. This active management of my internal emotional state is going to become a daily, hourly practice for me.

**What I will teach others about this scroll…**

As a mentor, this scroll is pure gold, and it perfectly aligns with my training programs. What I will teach others about this scroll is how to understand and strategically navigate the moods of the people we interact with.

In sales, we are in the people business. The scroll teaches us to make allowances for the anger and irritation of our prospects because they do not yet know the secret of controlling their own minds.

I will teach my teams that we must never judge a client or a deal based on one single meeting, and we must never fail to follow up tomorrow on someone who meets us with hate today. Human moods change!

The person who refuses to buy gold chariots for a penny today might trade his entire home for a tree tomorrow.

I will train my people to recognize that they are not just managing their own emotional state; they are learning to navigate the emotional tides of the marketplace.

By mastering our own moods through positive, deliberate action, we can master our clients’ reactions and become truly elite producers.

**What I will always remember from this scroll…**

Finally, what I will always remember from this scroll is the profound, liberating truth that my actions are the steering wheel for my destiny. It is so easy to buy into the lie that we have to “feel” motivated before we can take action.

This scroll shatters that myth permanently. I will always remember that the power to change my state is entirely in my own hands. I don’t have to wait for inspiration to strike; I can manufacture it on demand.

When I wake up feeling off, I won’t let that dictate my productivity or my income for the day. I have the power to transport my own weather with me, regardless of the storms outside.

This realization brings an incredible sense of freedom, but also a massive responsibility. There are no more excuses. I will always remember the closing promise of the 6th Scroll:

“Today I control my destiny, and my destiny is to become the greatest salesman in the world! I will become master of myself. I will become great.” Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World

Mastering your emotions isn’t about becoming a robot; it’s about not letting the natural highs and lows of the human experience derail your path to greatness.

Keep taking action, keep mastering your inner state, and keep pushing forward. Let’s get out there and close some deals.
