**Reflections on the Scroll Marked IV: Unlocking My Unique Potential**

**By Ray Yenkana**

As I continue my journey through the wisdom of Og Mandino’s *The Greatest Salesman in the World*, I find myself pausing to deeply absorb the message of the Fourth Scroll. Each scroll has offered a pillar of strength, but this one struck a different chord.

It spoke not just to my habits or my heart, but to my very identity. The title alone, “I am nature’s greatest miracle,” demands a shift in perspective, and as I read it, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and worth.

**What I Liked About This Scroll**

What I truly appreciated about this scroll was its profound insistence on individual uniqueness. In a world where we are often pressured to conform or to copy the success strategies of others, this scroll commands me to stop imitating.

I loved the biological and historical evidence it presented to bolster my confidence: the fact that “since the beginning of time never has there been another with my mind, my heart, my eyes, my ears, my hands, my hair, my mouth”.

It is a staggering thought that out of all the billions of humans who have walked this earth, and all who will come after, not one is exactly like Ray Yenkana.

I also found great comfort in the idea that I am not an accident. The scroll reminds me that I was “conceived in love and brought forth with a purpose”. It rejects the notion that I should be satisfied with mediocrity.

Instead, it frames my existence as the “end product of thousands of years of evolution,” meaning I am better equipped in both mind and body than all the emperors and wise men who preceded me. That is a powerful confidence booster.

**What I Learned From This Scroll**

The most critical lesson I learned is the equation of rarity and value. The scroll teaches that “I am rare, and there is value in all rarity; therefore, I am valuable”. I learned that my differences are not liabilities to be hidden but assets to be promoted.

By trying to be like others, I only dilute my value. The text uses the analogy that no one can duplicate my brush strokes or my chisel marks, and in truth, no one can sell exactly as I sell.

I also learned a practical lesson about untapped potential. The scroll bluntly states that I currently employ only a “paltry amount” of my brain and muscles. I have “unlimited potential,” but I have allowed my skills to stagnate.

This was a wake-up call that I can increase my accomplishments a hundredfold simply by choosing to use the equipment nature has already given me.

Perhaps the most difficult but necessary lesson was the “paradox of the ages” regarding the separation of work and life. The scroll taught me that to be effective, I must divorce my family from the market and the market from my family.

This means when I am in the marketplace, I cannot let thoughts of home cloud my mind, and when I am home, I cannot let the stress of the market dampen my love.

**What Changes I Will Make in My Life**

Armed with these teachings, I am committed to making tangible changes. First and foremost, I will stop imitating the style and mannerisms of other successful people. As the scroll commands, “Vain attempts to imitate others no longer will I make.”

Instead, I will place my uniqueness on display in the marketplace. I will accent my differences and hide my similarities, applying this principle to the goods I sell as well.

I will also dedicate myself to self-improvement with a new intensity. Since I am nature’s greatest miracle, I have a responsibility to polish my skills. I will “increase my knowledge of mankind, myself, and the goods I sell” so that my sales will multiply.

I will work on my “manners and graces,” knowing that they are the sugar to which all are attracted.

Furthermore, I am implementing a strict mental boundary between my work and my personal life. I will leave the problems of the market in the marketplace and the problems of my home at home.

This is crucial for my peace of mind and my efficiency. I will no longer allow the worry of one sphere to infect the joy of the other.

**What I Will Teach Others About This Scroll**

When I share this wisdom with others, I will focus on helping them realize their own irreplaceable value. I will teach them that they, too, are unique creatures of nature.

I will encourage them to stop looking at others for a template of who they should be. I want to tell them, “None can duplicate your handwriting, none can produce your child, and none has the ability to sell exactly as you”.

I will teach them that they are not on this earth by chance. I will remind them that they have a purpose, which is to “grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand.”

I will urge them to strain their potential until it cries for mercy, to not be satisfied with yesterday’s deeds, and to realize that they are the result of eons of evolutionary perfection.

**What I Will Always Remember**

The phrase that will echo in my mind forever from this scroll is the affirmation: **“I am nature’s greatest miracle.”**

I will remember that I am not a beast, a plant, or a rock, but a unique human being with a flame burning inside me that generations generally passed down. I will remember that “nature knows not defeat,” and since I am part of nature, eventually I will emerge victorious.

Most importantly, I will remember that my problems and discouragements are merely “opportunities in disguise.”

I have been given eyes to see and a mind to think, and that is the secret to overcoming any heartache. I am not a generic copy; I am a unique original. I will live this truth every day.
