Something really sweet happened this week, and I wanted to share it.
I received an unexpected email from the Connecticut Alliance of Foster and Adoptive Families. For the past three years, WOVEN, a group I lead at my church, has been donating hats and scarves to the children and families they serve.
Each year we’ve sent about 200 handmade items. CAFAF is one of several places our group donates to, and it has become something we really look forward to doing together.
In the email they thanked WOVEN for the care and generosity behind those donations. They mentioned the time we spend sitting together making them and how meaningful it is that each one is handmade with so much love and thought behind it.
Then came the part I definitely wasn’t expecting.
They shared that WOVEN has been chosen as their Community Partner of the Year for 2026.
Cue the tears.
Not because we were ever looking for recognition. When we gather together, we’re simply enjoying one another’s company. We sit, we talk, we laugh, we pray, and our hands just happen to be knitting or crocheting while we do it.
It feels simple.
But God has a way of using simple, faithful things in ways we don’t always get to see. It’s a reminder that being faithful in the small things really does matter.
This organization also holds a special place in my heart. My husband and I were foster parents for a couple of years, and during that time I saw firsthand how much support families need in that journey.
The Connecticut Alliance of Foster and Adoptive Families works closely with the Department of Children and Families to support foster and adoptive families across the state, so being able to serve in even a small way has always meant something personal to me.
Each hat and scarf that leaves our group carries more than yarn and stitches. It carries time, care, encouragement, prayers, and the love of a sisterhood that God has beautifully woven together.
Most of the time we send those items out and never really know where they end up or who receives them, and that’s okay.
But every once in a while, God gives us a little glimpse of the ripple effect of consistent acts of love.
This week felt like one of those moments.
Just a gentle reminder that when we offer our gifts from a place of love, God knows exactly where to send them, often much farther than we could ever imagine. 🧶🙏

That’s beautiful, Lois! It is definitely a ripple effect – the love you put into those knitted items is surely felt as much as the physical warmth.
