This week the Og reading of Scroll IV impacted me in a dramatic way. I realized something I was doing toward my DMP goals needs some improvement and course correction. The correction is in the deep weeds, the details, and not as important as the learning lesson.
In Scroll IV pp.71-72, Og states:
“I have been given eyes to see and a mind to think and now I know a great secret of life for I perceive, at last, that all my problems, discouragements, and heartaches are, in truth, great opportunities in disguise. I will no longer be fooled by the garments they wear for mine eyes are opened.” Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World
When I initially realized my troubles, I first became discouraged, and that lasted for a few hours. And then I remembered this reading!
The discouragement is actually an OPPORTUNITY!
Immediately, this shifted my feelings about the hiccup in my process and instead of discouragement, I felt encouraged. Encouraged because in order to grow there must be learning. And in order to improve and proceed, I had to dive into new learnings and improve.
Surprisingly, this realization set me free. And I truly felt like “mine eyes had been opened” to recognize the opportunity before me.
This allowed me to continue moving forward with excitement rather than dread and I find myself looking for new discoveries daily.

This is truly fantastic!!
Amy, your ability to transform a setback into a growth moment is inspiring! 🌱 Og Mandino’s words truly came alive through your experience. Keep moving forward—so happy for your discoveries! 💫
Thank you, Amy, you expressed this so well. One of my favorite verses is that God uses everything together for good for those who love him and are called according to his purpose 🙌
“Surprisingly, this realization set me free. And I truly felt like “mine eyes had been opened” to recognize the opportunity before me.” What a beautiful realization and statement here. Yes, it’s so freeing when we can live our life out of this great mind and heart we all have and know how to operate them properly, right?
Nice job.
I can’t help but admire your insight and how you have shared it with us. I will never look at being discouraged the same way. Thank you.
Thank you Amy. I’ve had my share of hiccups. You’ve pointed out that it will happen and there is no need wallow in the disappointment. Rather, look for the opportunity.
Amy, thanks for this wonderful example of what happens with consistent focus on the wonder of life!!!
Mahalo Carolyn for sharing great insights!
OK Wow Amy I am in sync with you – I had a similar epiphany this morning on the same paragraph. I feel like there are so many more levels up as humans with the amazing minds we’ve been blessed with – grateful for your post!
Amy, I liked how you turned hard times into a chance to grow. You showed that change starts by seeing problems in a new way. This insight is helpful. Thank you.
Keep learning and moving forward with excitement! Thank you
Wonderful, Amy! That is indeed a powerful lesson, to realize that our greatest challenges can be our most important opportunities!
