Traci Southerland Blog post Week 10

Last night, I had something new to happen. This last 10 weeks, I have done the assignments and kept pressing on. I have always tried to be a positive person, but still life happens and things can bring a person down.

But since I began this course, my attitude has stayed more positive. Yesterday I felt a huge shift, I felt things moving… and then last night, negativity hit me, and for just a short bit I got depressed about something that should not have upset me at all.

I allowed it to make me not read the GS. And even through the night, I would think about my “problem” and I would give it to God all over again, telling him He had this.

But it kept me awake. And I fought the words “give up” Over and over. And as I fought those words, I continually kept saying, “no. I must succeed and in order to succeed I must persist, I will not give up!”

The words from this month’s scroll ,” Failure I may still encounter at the thousandth step, yet success hide behind the next bend in the road,” came to my mind.

Many people who are running a race get very weary near the end of the race and decide to quit just before the finish line, and many people give up in life when the next curve in the road is their victory.

  • thanks for sharing honestly! We all have ‘those days…’ but then we persist. This is free will – we can choose to cave or we can choose to be better. Some days we are just exhausted – and can still look in the mirror knowing we did our best. We persist and we will win ♥

  • Hi Lois, thank you. I needed that, I will do the same thing! I needed that reinforcement.

  • What you experienced is growth Traci!
Negativity showing up right after a shift is often proof you’re close to a breakthrough. You didn’t give up — you persisted, even while tired and shaken. That matters.
You stayed in the race, spoke truth over yourself, and chose faith in yourself. Keep going 👏

  • Thank you Traci for sharing your experience and how you tackled that negativity that hit you and overcame it! Yes, we do tend to give up just when the victory is under our nose! Never ‘give up’ even if you have to take it slow, but keep going!

  • What an amazing share! I’m so happy for you that you were able to turn that around so powerfully. As I am writing this comment, a thought came to me…as we read the scrolls three times a day and they come to mind right when we need it…It’s like when the Bible says to hide God‘s word in your heart so that it can come to memory exactly when we need it…finding scriptures that align with the scrolls and reading them together three times a day is something that I started to do in the first week, but didn’t continue, but I think I’m going to add that in as well. Thank you my dear for your share.

  • Thank you for pushing on Traci. And know that you are not alone in having these type of feelings for things the seem to be out of our control. Beautiful that you were able to use words from GS to gain some understanding!

  • Traci,
Your post rang home. The scroll has been hard for me to read because in the past I have allowed too much to get in the way of me persisting in a whole lot of areas. No more giving up.

  • What happened wasn’t failure Traci — it was proof you’re growing. Resistance shows up right before a breakthrough, and you met it with persistence, truth, and heart.
You didn’t give up. You kept choosing your path. You’re closer to that “next bend in the road” than you realise – Keep going.

  • “Your transparency is a gift to everyone reading. What stands out to me is this: ‘I fought the words “give up.”‘ That’s the entire journey right there. The course isn’t about never feeling down; it’s about building the mental muscle to fight back. You did that perfectly. You turned a sleepless night into a training ground for persistence. The scroll words came to you not by chance, but because you’ve planted them deep. You are exactly where you need to be. Keep going. The bend is right ahead.”

  • Way to persist Traci. I can promise you, 9 years later and I still stumble and fall, but what makes the difference is that I get back up and start my mental diet again 🙂 I am so happy that you are starting to feel and see this shift. Amazing job!!
