MKE Week 6 – Surprise Tears
Last week I got a haircut. Much of my conversation with the woman who cuts my hair was centered around explaining various aspects of the Master Key Experience (MKE) course.
Toward the end of our conversation on this topic I asked if she knew the story of the Golden Buddha. I told her about the marauders from outside the community that were laying plunder to whatever they saw of material value and how the monks didn’t want their Golden Buddha to be dismantled and destroyed so they covered the buddha in cement.
And that when the marauders came by all they saw was a cement statue which had no value to them and they left it alone. Then years later when the marauders were gone and a boy was sitting at the base of the cement Buddha a piece of the cement fell off to expose the gold.
And how the boy ran to tell the other monks what he had discovered and the monks all helped to chip off all the cement to FREE the Golden Buddha from its bondage. And I told her that this was a metaphor for us being encased in our own cement and how I was learning to chip the cement holding me in bondage off of myself.
At this point I had a difficult time continuing to tell the story as I became choked up and tears welled up in my eyes. The tears surprised me. Somewhere between tears of sadness and tears of joy. Chipping away at my cement.

Ron, thank you for your beautiful story. Tears came to my eye as I read it. It is wonderful to be on this path together. In your words “learning to chip the cement holding me in bondage off of myself”

Thank you, Ron. Something is shifting in me too and your post is helping me to see where I’m going.
The gold is showing Thank you Ron.
A wonderful experience, thank you for sharing!
Those are Buddhic tears, tears of joy that come when old burdens finally fall away. So beautiful 🙂
This is such a beautiful and honest share, Ron. Thank you for your vulnerability. Those surprise tears are a sure sign that you are touching a deep and profound truth within yourself. The Golden Buddha story is powerful, but the way you told it—and your visceral reaction—makes it real. It seems you weren’t just telling a story; you were feeling the truth of your own liberation. What a gift to have that moment of clarity, where the metaphor becomes a lived experience. Here’s to continuing to chip away, one piece at a time.
I love that you shared that story, Ron. It obviously made an impact on you, now you shared that message with someone – perfect!
