“The only way to keep from going backwards is to keep going forward.” Charles Haanel, The Master Key System
As I was preparing to write this blog, this sentence resonated in a way that it hadn’t resonated the rest of the week. My plan was to accelerate and catch up on the things that were now possible since I had a more clearly defined and compelling DMP.
Instead, I lost focus this week as I got distracted by things that were happening related to my move and the lack of progress in selling my house.
I missed the opportunity to get the benefit that would have recruited by reading and practicing The Seven Laws of the Mind which were included for the preparation for the week.
Even now as I’m writing this, I am distracted by demands on me from the person who is moving out of my house. She texted something to me and I immediately thought I needed to answer her in a way that would cast the responsibility back on her and then I stopped myself.
What stopped me was the Law of Substitution. I have control over how I respond or in this case, just not responding and doing what needs to be done lets me grow. Anger is definitely not on the mental diet. I am starting again right now.
What gave me joy this week was writing the index cards of the things I did right and reading them. I probably wrote about 70 cards, they just kept coming. As I relived them I found myself writing details on some of them. Each time brought a smile to my face and I loved myself even more.
Even though I am still playing catch-up, I can feel that the Master Key Experience (MKE) is making a positive change in my life.

I too am struggling with the interpersonal relationship issues that crop up. I know that I need to reframe this back on me that I have the responsibility to be the person that I am and not be in attack mode. Working on myself in the sit is important. So nice to know that others are dealing with similar issues. Keep sharing.
Fantastic! What wonderful progress! So proud of you!
Congrats Susan on choosing growth with the Law of Substitution. And sharing the smiles from the 70 index cards!
Well done Susan. You caught yourself, applied the law, and chose growth over reaction, that’s mastery showing up in real life. The joy you felt with those cards is your inner evidence. Keep going; the change is already taking root.
It’s amazing how we get such return on just “doing the work”. Thanks for sharing this precious example of how the 7 laws can help us live a better life!
Enjoyed your post and can relate to all you shared. Law of growth in motion along with the other laws! Go Susan!
Susan, thank you for this raw and honest reflection. Your week sounds so much like mine—the best intentions met by life’s relentless “stuff.” But your moment with the Law of Substitution, where you chose not to react, is a HUGE victory. That’s the real work, right there! And 70+ joy cards? That’s incredible evidence that the positive changes are deeply rooting, even on a “catch-up” week. Your post is a powerful reminder that progress isn’t linear, and the “comeback” is where we truly grow. Onward!
Well done, Susan – and congratulations on moving steadily toward the next chapter of your life!
