Sometimes the timing of things can shock us into a new realization.
This happened to me yesterday after the webinar. I don’t want to spoil the exercise for new people, but we spent a good amount of time during the webinar in a private time of repetition. IYKYK.
During this exercise, my belief seemed strengthened, potential obstacles suddenly shrunk, and confidence in my future grew.
Shortly following the webinar, I was watching an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds where the entire crew loses their memory. You can imagine the chaos and distrust that ensued.
One character went “home”—to her quarters—directed by the AI computer on board.
While in her quarters, she asked the computer who she was and what she did. The computer replied, “You are Erica Ortegas, alpha-shift pilot assigned to the USS Enterprise.”
After confirming that she did, in fact, fly the ship, she made her way back to the bridge, repeatedly saying to herself out loud, “I’m Erica Ortegas. I fly the ship.”
I was flabbergasted.
She then proceeded to fly the ship away from the area causing the memory loss, saving them all.
In that moment, I saw a clear connection to the exercises and practices we are implementing—learning how to execute new behaviors before they feel fully natural.
Imagine the faith required to fly a ship when you have no memory of the ship, how to fly it, or even your own name.
In many ways, that is exactly what this process feels like. I don’t always fully believe it myself, but I have a team of people affirming who I really am, which gives me the courage to keep going.
The Master Key Experience (MKE) team and course content is not dissimilar from the computer that simply said, “You are Erica Ortegas, and you fly the ship.”
Day by day, I am learning to fly my ship. I am learning to build courage and confidence, to make bold decisions, and to take action toward my dream.
***I’m Amy Nelson, and I fly the ship.***

Wow, This is a brilliant connection. Confused, misdirected? Go “home” or within and find your true course. then proceed with blind confidence you are on the right track. I love this!!!
Amy, your Star Trek story made this lesson click. Repeating “I fly the ship” shows how practice builds belief. Thanks for sharing your courage and steady growth.
What an amazing connection! Thank you for sharing that with us all! “My name is L-oi-s, and I fly this ship!”
Amy, when on the hero’s journey it often seems as if your going to a place no one has gone before, so thanks for your example of true courage!
This is an amazing job Amy and I’m a sucker for a Star Trek analogy ALWAYS! I adore how you put these 2 together BRAVO and It’s helped me so much to read this – Mahalo!
Amy, this is absolutely brilliant! What a perfect, powerful metaphor. You’ve nailed the essence of this faith-building process: taking the action before the feeling is fully there, guided by the affirmation of your “crew” (the MKE, your guide, your mastermind). “I’m Amy Nelson, and I fly the ship.” YES! Claim it. This post is a shot of courage. Keep flying, Captain!
What a powerful insight Amy. That realization is spot-on.
Even before it feels familiar, you’re stepping into the role and letting repetition build belief.
Keep flying the ship; your confidence is clearly catching up to who you already are. 🚀
This is great Amy! The lessons are everywhere.
Amy, incredible share and now I want to watch an episode of Star Trek. We are certainly on a flight of a lifetime!
Wonderful blog, Amy! I love it! Keep flying that ship!
