In our home, a new phrase has taken root: “You’ve got 7 seconds!”
It started as a playful reminder from MKE—flip a negative thought into a positive within seven seconds. But now it’s become a family rule of sorts.
When one of us starts drifting into complaint, criticism, or worry, someone chimes in with a smile and says, “You’ve got 7 seconds!”
It’s amazing how quickly the energy in the room shifts.
We laugh.
We regroup..
And most importantly, we practice choosing a better thought.
I love that what once felt like a personal mindset challenge has grown into a household habit. Seven seconds is all it takes to redirect a moment, a mood, and sometimes even a whole day.

Awesome!
What a wonderful practice! Thank you!
Great idea, Lois. I’m going to introduce that at home too 😊. I do have Dr. David Hawkins’ consciousness scale on my desk to quickly lift my state of mind, but at home there’s always so much going on. So bringing in the 7-second rule feels like a perfect idea! Thank you!
I absolutely love this! “You’ve got 7 seconds!” – what a perfect, light-hearted, and effective family mantra. It’s amazing how such a simple phrase can create such a positive shift. Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea!
I’m giggling over here thinking of the kids calling from the other room, you’ve got 7 seconds…. So fantastic that you are embracing this journey with the whole family, especially the mental diet.
What a great way to lift up your family!
